Effectiveness/Ratings:

From Superkids Software Review: http://www.superkids.com/aweb/pages/reviews/vocab/02/vstretch/merge.shtml

“Vocabulary Stretch lacks any sort of kid appeal at all. An effort has been made to encourage students with a graphic reward after each correct answer during the Workout. However, a 1”x2” banner that reads “Congratulations” may not be terribly motivating to a high school student. Such rewards are not earned during the Tryout or during Finals. In fact, the instructions for the Tryout state: “Here is a diagnostic test. It will help you test your understanding of 12 words. Because the Tryout is a tool that helps assess your skills, you do not get any sounds or graphic rewards until you have completed it”.

Methods and Strategies for Classroom Incorporation:

1.      1.  This program would be best used as group work during activity periods that devise different stations for different types of groups work to go on simultaneously.

2.       2. This program does offer an excellent assessment program that can be printed out or saved for the teacher’s use, so very little monitoring has to occur while the actual program is in use.

3.      3.  This program would be helpful during periods of vocabulary skills units and writing units to improve the use of more detailed and advanced vocabulary in the classroom.

1.     4. Assessment of this program could be used as a classroom activity grade or extra credit, but it is not advanced enough to count as a quiz grade or anything else with more value.
